Spicy Mix Vege~~

Went to Chicken rice Shop with en arip for dinner last night, as usual we ordered the additional dish "Spicy Mix Vege".

Small pot but rich in taste...

This dish has a humble origin... The Chinese only make this dish the day after a festival celebration. This is due to the fact that, after a festival celebration, there will be tons of left-over dishes... You either eat them after reheating, or you can be creative and dump all the different left-overs into one big pot, put some fresh vege, and stew it for several hours... Of course there are several other ingredients to be added (and en. Arip refused to tell me what they are!)...

It tastes savoury, and a bit on the hot side. This is totally peranakan, and I guess the hot and spicy flavour is influenced by Malay cooking style, as the peranakans are Chinese (immigrants) living an assimilated lifestyle close to that of the Malays.

For those who have not tried it, I strongly recommend it. It is said to be VERY AUTHENTIC to the non-halal Chinese version. The Chinese usually make this dish with the left-over sio-bak (khindzir panggang uolsss!!!)
